A home in the 4400 block of Whitmire Circle off Cleveland Highway was destroyed Sunday by a fire that also caused minor damage to a neighboring home.

A couple and their 4-month-old child were displaced by a Sunday evening fire that destroyed their North Hall home.

A 23-year-old man and 25-year-old woman lived in the home in the 4400 block of Whitmire Circle off Cleveland Highway, but no one was injured, according to Hall County Fire Services.

“They have family in the area and will be staying with them,” spokesman Capt. Zachary Brackett said.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the 1,400-square-foot home engulfed.

Passerby Kayla Blankenship said she was headed to a relative’s home nearby when saw smoke rising from the area.

“As I pulled up, there were neighbors outside,” she said. “We asked if everyone was OK. They responded ... they weren't sure if the couple and their new baby were home or not, and that their family dog was inside.”

Blankenship said her boyfriend, Valentin Nava, “went to get the dog and to check if anyone was inside.”

“Hearing the dog cry from the street was sad,” she said.

Only the dog was in the home.

The fire also caused minor damage to a neighboring home.

The cause is undetermined at this time.
