In between flu shots, annual physicals and unforeseen medical emergencies, not a lot of women give much thought to the health of their breasts.

Knowing this, several local nonprofits have come together to devote an entire evening to bringing women up to date on the subject.

On Thursday, WomenSource will host the final installment of its three-part, Fall Women's Health Series. It will be held in the Walters Auditorium at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

This week's discussion is focused on breast feeding and overall breast health.

The series is a partnership between WomenSource, Junior League of Gainesville-Hall County and the medical center's women and children's services department.

"WomenSource does monthly brown bag lunches and at the end we give out surveys so that participants can tell us what topics they want to hear about," said Christy Moore, WomenSource board member and medical center manager of community health improvement.

"Some of the topics that we picked for the fall series were some of topics that participants suggested on the surveys."

The other topics in the series were hormone replacement therapy and women and heart disease.

The free event is open to the public and women of all ages.

"This (seminar) would be beneficial for all women," Moore said.

"The breast-feeding portion would be good for women who have recently had children or who are thinking about having children. And the overall breast health talk is something that all women need to hear."

The talk should last around and hour and will include a question and answer session.

The featured speakers will be Dr. Julie Presleym, of Gainesville Radiology Group and the medical center's head of women's imaging services, and Sara Dyer, a registered nurse and the director of women and children's services at the hospital.
