A Gainesville woman pleaded guilty this week to stealing more than $6,000 from the Hall County Tax Commissioner’s office while employed there in 2006.

Amanda Lea Belin, 27, pleaded guilty in Hall County Superior Court to felony theft by taking, District Attorney Lee Darragh said.

Belin was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Kathlene Gosselin to eight years, with 90 days to serve under house arrest and the remainder on probation. She was also ordered to perform 80 hours of community service and pay restitution to the tax commissioner’s office in the amount of $6,304.

Belin was accused of stealing the money on Aug. 22, 2006, while working as an employee in the tag office.

Hall County Tax Commissioner Keith Echols was out of the office Thursday afternoon and unavailable for comment.
