A woman was killed following a collision with a dump truck Wednesday afternoon in South Hall, according to Georgia State Patrol.

She was traveling east on Poplar Springs Road in a Honda SUV when the truck traveling west hit the driver’s side at an angle, according to the state patrol.

Her name wasn’t immediately known as authorities had yet to notify next of kin. Sgt. G.R. Harper of the state patrol said she was in her late 60s.

Dump truck driver Lawrence Swikard, 49, of Gainesville was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, where he was in satisfactory condition Wednesday afternoon, according to hospital officials.

Harper said the woman was turning left from Circassian Place, the roadway leading into the subdivision, when the dump truck’s tire malfunctioned and the driver went across the center line.

Nearby residents said they heard a loud noise that shook their houses.

Information about any possible charges wasn’t immediately available.
