An 84-year-old Dawson County woman died early Thursday morning in a house fire, according to fire officials.

About 12:30 a.m., Dawson County Emergency Services responded to a house fire on Pinewood Trail, said Tim Satterfield, Dawson County deputy fire chief and county fire marshal.

Heavy smoke and flames were showing when firefighters arrived, he said, but several family members were able to escape the blaze.

However, Rosie Lee Holtzclaw was trapped inside the house, Satterfield said.

Fire crews were able to reach Holtzclaw in a bedroom, he said. She was taken to Northside Forsyth Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The house was a total loss and the cause of the fire was undetermined, Satterfield said.

"It's still an ongoing investigation," Satterfield said. "We'll be going over there (Friday) and maybe be over there Saturday."
