It took some 26 firefighters about 15 minutes to control a fire Monday morning at a brick home in Cleveland.

Though no one was home at the time, a family pet was killed in the fire.

Flames and heavy smoke were coming from the rear of the 1,100-square-foot, all-brick home when Cleveland firefighters and volunteer firefighters from White County arrived. Firefighters remained at the home in the 6400 block of Ga. 115 for two hours.

Though the fire likely started in the laundry area, according to Ana Newberry, White County Fire Department’s public information office. The fire is not considered suspicious, but the cause has not been determined, Newberry said.

The Red Cross is assisting homeowners.
