Authorities said a personal watercraft explosion Wednesday evening that sent a man into the water near Holiday Marina was accidental.

Hall County Fire Services responded around 8:45 p.m. June 20 to the marina on Lanier Islands Parkway in Buford about a reported boat explosion.

The 52-year-old Lawrenceville man was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center for “evaluation of nonlife-threatening injuries,” Capt. Zachary Brackett wrote in an email.

Brackett said Friday, June 22, the man is in stable condition at the hospital.

The watercraft was submerged near the docks, and authorities did not see fire.

“The patient was removed from the water with the assistance of bystanders and was ambulatory. Bystanders advised that the jet ski exploded, throwing the patient into the water,” Brackett wrote in an email.

Brackett did not explain further how the explosion occurred.
