Music lovers can select their favorite local bands, then watch them compete in a summertime concert beside Lake Lanier.
Voting is underway and runs through May 30 in the North Georgia Battle of the Bands presented by The Times and Lanier Islands.
To take part, visit www.celebrategeorgiamusic.com and register to receive a ballot. You can listen to selections from each of the bands nominated and vote for your favorite.
Bands competing online are: South of Heaven, Karleigh Makayla, Daddy Issues!, Five Speed, The Rovers and Local Honey.
The winning band will receive several prizes, including $1,000 in cash, a paying gig at Lanier Islands Sunset Cove for the 2017 season (worth $1,500), season passes to Lanier Islands, a video produced by The Times video host Savannah King and a photo shoot, full follow-up media promotion and a signature photo by professional photographer. The winning band also will be featured in a future edition of Get Out.
In addition, a People’s Choice Award trophy will also be presented (based on dollar per-vote donations to Habitat for Humanity of Hall County).
“The goal is to promote emerging musicians and give them exposure and the chance to play before large audiences and to celebrate the outstanding musical talent in our midst,” said Times Publisher Charlotte Atkins. “This is a new event for North Georgia and we are thrilled to be partnering with Lanier Islands on this inaugural event. We hope to grow it into an annual event that celebrates Georgia music year after year.”
