Athens Highway/U.S. 129 traffic is scheduled to switch Thursday, March 15, to newly built lanes in East Hall as part of a road widening project.
The new lanes will run from Sugar Hill Elementary School at 3259 Athens Highway to the Jackson County line.
The Georgia Department of Transportation is widening U.S. 129 from two to four lanes from Gillsville Highway/Ga. 323 to Talmo in Jackson County.
Construction workers will begin directing traffic to the new lanes at 9 a.m. Thursday, according to the DOT.
The 7-mile, $44.1 million project has been underway since 2016 and is set for completion in April 2020.
