Some migrant students in North Georgia will soon have easier access to a college degree, thanks to a $2.1 million grant. The University of North Georgia received the grant from the U.S. Department of Education to establish a College Assistance Migrant Program, part of a federally funded initiative to help migrant youth receive a higher education. “This grant will enable us to provide support to mitigate the educational, economic and cultural barriers that make it difficult for these students to enroll in or succeed in college initially,” said Harriett Allison, English as a Second Language program leader and associate professor, in a news release.
