Two elderly people who were airlifted Thursday from an accident on Thompson Bridge Road remained in critical but stable condition Friday at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

Carl Ridley, 96, and Betty Nix, 80, of Cornelia were in the hospital’s intensive care unit Friday, a day after Ridley pulled his Mercedes into the path of an oncoming car while attempting to turn onto Enota Avenue.

The driver that struck Ridley’s car was not seriously injured.
