Train hits truck left on railroad tracks

Oakwood police are investigating an incident Sunday morning in which a train plowed into an unoccupied truck left on railroad tracks that run through the small South Hall town.

"The vehicle was left unattended on the tracks at the end of Allen Street," police Chief Randall Moon said Sunday.

"It’s not possible that (the vehicle) went through the stop sign. Someone actually had to place it on the tracks."

Police are talking to the owner.

"You’re looking at anything from a possible insurance scam — he’s saying that someone stole the truck," Moon said. "It could be a number of things, really. ... It could even be a bad joke."

The train didn’t leave the tracks and the damage was cleared away by Sunday evening, Moon said.
