Much need rainfall and cooler temperatures are in the forecast today as a line of stormy weather moves into Georgia later today.
The most severe weather is expected in Northwest Georgia, but forecasters at the National Weather Service say showers and thunderstorms are possible in Northeast Georgia today and tonight. Gusty winds and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning are likely around the storms.
The good news is that temperatures, which had been in the mid 90s for several days, will drop into the mid to upper 80s for the rest of the week. Today's high will be 86.
Rainfall is not expected to be heavy, except around thunderstorms. Up to a quarter inch is all that is expected locally.
Scattered thunderstorms are expected over much of north and central Georgia today. Forecasters predict an 80 percent chance of rain today and tonight. The chance of thunderstorms will continue through the weekend.
At this time, there are no watches or warnings issued in Georgia.
