Three Gainesville teens were charged in an alleged armed robbery Monday near West Academy, police said.
Rayshawn Jaquon Payne, 18, Jaquavious Watson, 17, and a 15-year-old girl not named by police were charged with armed robbery.
Gainesville Police received the robbery call around 11 p.m. Monday.
“During the robbery, the male victim had his cellphone and U.S. currency taken at gunpoint,” Sgt. Kevin Holbrook wrote in a news release. “This is not believed to be a random crime.”
According to the warrant, the suspects took $70 from the victim.
Officers later found the three suspects, who were reportedly “in possession of stolen firearms that had previously been taken from an entering auto.”
“It appears that the armed robbery was supposed to be a drug transaction,” Holbrook said.
Payne and Watson were additionally charged with aggravated assault and theft by receiving a firearm.
“We would like to encourage residents to be vigilant and look for suspicious activity. (Residents) should call police immediately,” Holbrook said. “It is important that individuals keep items out of plain view in their vehicles.”
All three suspects were booked Tuesday in to the Hall County Jail, where they remain.
