The Times was a big winner in the annual Georgia Press Advertising contest for 2013, receiving 19 awards for advertising excellence and design, as well as recognition for one of its staff members as the state’s top advertising salesperson.
The awards were presented at the organization’s annual banquet April 5 on St. Simons Island.
Debbie Purvis, a member of The Times’ sales staff, earned Salesperson of the Year recognition. Her primary focus is The Paper of Braselton, Hoschton and Chateau Elan, but she also sells for the daily newspaper and its various publications, including HOME magazine.
Her selection marked the second time in five years that a member of the Times staff won the competition’s top award, which was won by Melisa Sizemore in 2009.
The awards presented to The Times included 11 first-place honors and eight second-place recognitions.
The annual press association competition judges the quality of advertising in newspapers of similar size. To be considered, all ads must have been created by the newspaper’s staff.
Sherrie Jones is advertising director for The Times and manages the advertising sales and graphic design departments.
“These awards reflect the creative and customer service efforts we put into helping the advertisers in all of our various products to improve their businesses. We’re proud that our talented staff devotes the time and energy needed to assure that our advertisers’ needs are met in the most professional manner possible,” publisher Dennis Stockton said.
