Hoping to maintain service levels when an employee abruptly leaves, Gainesville City Manager Bryan Lackey has been given the authority to approve temporary hiring for up to 60 days on a case-by-case basis. The department where the hire is made must be able to absorb the additional cost in its current budget and funding levels. City Council approved the measure Tuesday night.
