One teenager was wounded and another arrested after a shooting incident Friday night in southern Hall County, the sheriff’s office reported this morning.
Four teens were traveling in the area of Candler Highway/Ga. 60 and Tanners Mill Road just after 8 p.m. when one person in the back seat discharged a firearm, striking a female passenger in the front seat in the back, according to a news release from Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Nicole Bailes.
The teens attempted to take the injured person to the Quick Care clinic near Wal-Mart in Oakwood but it was closed, Bailes said. They later flagged down an Oakwood police officer for help. The victim was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center and underwent emergency surgery. Her condition is unknown.
The teen who discharged the firearm fled before the police officer was summoned, Bailes said. Deputies used K-9 police dog units and later found him and took him into custody.
Sergio Salamanca, 17, was charged with reckless conduct. Investigators also learned he was wanted by the Department of Juvenile Justice for escape, and placed a hold on him. He remains in the Hall County Jail.
The incident remains under investigation and further charges are possible, Bailes said.
