Lula’s expanded trail system is open to the public and ready for walkers.
A second 1,500-foot trail was added to the Lula Wellness Park, which encompasses 15.7 acres near Athens Street.
“It’s a beautiful setting now with the addition of the new trail,” Dennis Bergin, Lula city manger said. “It doesn’t feel like exercise going out there.”
Lula City Council approved of around $118,000 in funding for the trail’s extension in March 2019. Bergin said the city is expected to receive up to 80% in reimbursements through a grant from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
Once Lula put out a bid three months ago, he said the ball started rolling quickly. Square Deal Enterprises, based out of Sautee Nacoochee, acted as the general contractor.
“The contractor was good and everything about it was great,” Bergin said. “What a wonderful attribute back to the community.”
Over the next six months additional changes will come to the Wellness Park, including a raised canopy, extra picnic tables and more signage along the trail.
