A strong thunderstorm  in Hall County has led to a flash flood warning and some sporadic power outages in South Hall, according to Scott Cagle, fire marshal and deputy Emergency Management Agency director.

Among the weather-related calls reported were transformer fires and houses being struck by lighting. There were no reports of major damage or working house fires, Cagle said.

In Forsyth County, a strong, slow moving storm system left a trail of burned homes and downed trees in its wake, and kept firefighters busy for hours.

The storm damage, which started just after 6 p.m., was concentrated mostly south of Ga. 20, according to Division

Chief Jason Shivers, who said the fire department called on neighboring counties for assistance.

“We had at least three working structure fires, another home damaged by lightning, and a serious wreck along with all of the other calls, so we’ve been assisted by the Johns Creek Fire Department, as well as Dawson and Cherokee counties,” Shivers said.

The accident, on Windermere Parkway near the Three Chimney’s subdivision, sent at least one person to the hospital with serious injuries. Initial calls indicated the person was trapped, either inside or underneath an overturned vehicle.

As of 8 p.m., firefighters were still battling the last structure fire in a home on Blackstock Drive.

Shivers said officials were still busy dealing with emergencies, and the number of calls related to the storm was “in the dozens.”
