The Georgia Supreme Court has upheld the murder conviction of a Gainesville man in the 2009 slaying of a 19-year-old man at a Gainesville public housing complex. The Supreme Court, however, has thrown out Christopher Slaughter’s sentence for aggravated assault. “The trial court should have merged his conviction for that offense with his murder conviction,” according to a court document published Monday.
