Sunday marks the first day of spring, but many in Northeast Georgia were getting an early start on the season Saturday.

A handful of events filled a warm, sunny day in the area as the spring slate of activities began in earnest.

It began early with the annual Little League opening ceremonies at Gainesville's City Park, where players paraded with their team banners.

Later came the annual 4-H Club's Cops and Kids BB Gun Challenge at Chicopee Woods Agricultural Center, pitting law enforcement officers against the club's dead-eye hot shots.

At Lake Lanier, competitors competed in the BattleFrog Obstacle Race Series at Lake Lanier Islands in Buford. Each event features an 8-kilomter course with at least 25 obstacles across the terrain.
