Commissioners voted to award a roundabout project at JM Turk and Martin roads in South Hall to E.R. Snell, a Snellville-based contractor, for $875,217.60.

They also agreed to increase the project budget from $800,000 to $990,847. The county received a $640,000 state grant for the project. Zach Propes, the county’s financial services director, said on Tuesday that some of that has been spent on engineering for the project. Propes said the budget increase also reflects expenses the county has incurred for engineering and legal fees for right of way acquisition.

About $301,000 in Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax funds will be used to pay for the remainder of the project. The 1 percent sales tax was approved by county voters in 2015.

The vote was unanimous among commissioners in attendance. Commissioner Kathy Cooper had not arrived at the meeting yet when the item was approved.
