The Hall County Sheriff's Office is looking for a man it says attempted to rob a Flowery Branch convenience store clerk at gunpoint Wednesday night but left before receiving any money.
Sgt. Kiley Sargent with the sheriff's office said Thursday that a man entered the Shell service station at the intersection of Gaines Ferry Road and Atlanta Highway about 9 p.m.
"We had a male dressed in black all the way down to the ski mask," Sargent said. "He walked in, showed a handgun and demanded cash."
But as the clerk began to open the cash drawer, the would-be robber left the store.
"For unknown reasons he left the store without any cash. We don't know if he was spooked by someone," Sargent said.
Deputies and K-9 units searched the area for the man but were unsuccessful.
The store clerk was not sure whether the suspect left in a vehicle or on foot and was not able to provide a description of the man, other than he was wearing dark clothes.
Investigators are reviewing recordings of the store and are following up on leads, Sargent said.
The man would still be charged with armed robbery despite not taking any money, Sargent said.
The case remains under investigation by the sheriff's office, Criminal Investigations Division. Anyone with information is asked to call 770-533-7674.
