Rabies alert issued for North Hall area

A rabies alert has been issued for the North Hall County area after a raccoon tested positive following contact with a dog.

The animal was found in the Highland Circle area and shipped to the Georgia Public Health Lab in Decatur, where it was confirmed Monday to have rabies. It is the sixth confirmed case in Hall this year.

Positive alert signs will be posted in the area where the rabid raccoon was located. If you live in this area or you see an animal acting abnormally in the area, contact Hall County Animal Services at 770-531-6830; after business hours, call Hall County Dispatch at 770-536-8812.

Rabies vaccines for pets are available for $10 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at the Hall County Animal Shelter, 1688 Barber Road, Gainesville.
