Rabid skunk found in Homestead Drive area

A skunk that came in contact with a dog last week in the Homestead Drive area of North Hall County was confirmed to have rabies.

It is the eighth confirmed case for 2012.

Positive alert signs will be posted in the area where the rabid skunk was located. If you live in the area or you see an animal acting abnormally in the Homestead Drive area, contact Hall County Animal Services at 770-531-6830 or during nonworking hours call Hall County Dispatch at 770-536-8812.

Animal owners are encouraged to vaccinate their pets for rabies. Vaccines are available at the Hall County Animal Shelter for $10 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at 1688 Barber Road, Gainesville.
