Falling trees caused at least two significant power outages earlier today in Gainesville, but Georgia Power officials say all issues have been resolved.

One tree that fell behind the Dollar General shopping center on John Morrow Parkway left about 375 Georgia Power customers without power for about four hours.

The tree fell shortly after noon and broke a power pole, said Konswello Monroe, a spokesperson for Georgia Power.

Gainesville Fire Chief Jon Canada said the falling tree affected power in the John Morrow and Washington Street area as well as the Tower Heights Road and Alta Vista area.

Another tree fell around 4:15 p.m. near Shallowford Parkway affecting about 1,000 customers, according to Christy Ihrig, a spokesperson for Georgia Power.

Utility crews were able to restore power to those customers within an hour, Ihrig said.
