A man driving a white van was in serious condition Saturday after a series of hit-and-run crashes Friday night that struck seven vehicles in Gainesville and Hall County.

The van struck five vehicles in Gainesville and two in the county, according to Gainesville Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook.

Holbrook said the crashes began on Thompson Bridge Road, then continued south to E.E. Butler Parkway/Athens Highway/U.S. 129.

The van crashed and overturned on U.S. 129, in Jackson County, south of Talmo.

Responders across multiple jurisdictions were involved in pursuing the van.

“I would like to point out that law enforcement did not make contact with the van until it crashed in Jackson County, this was not a vehicular pursuit,” Holbrook said.

The male driver was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, where he remains in serious condition.

No others injuries were reported, Holbrook said.

Gainesville Police, Hall County Sheriff's Office, Jackson County Sheriff's Office and Georgia State Patrol are joined in the investigation. Holbrook said charges against the driver are possible.
