A man is accused of trying to kill a woman by choking her and brutally beating her with a crowbar, according to police and court documents.
Thomas Nicely, 51, was charged Friday, March 2, with aggravated assault. He was booked Saturday in the Hall County Jail, where he remains.
The incident allegedly took place around 6:50 p.m. Friday on Industrial Boulevard.
According to the statement of charges in support of his arrest, Nicely allegedly “did intend to murder victim by strangling the victim with his hand to (the) point she could not get air flow and did black out.”
Nicely is also accused of hitting the 54-year-old victim in the ribs with a crowbar and hitting her in the face with a closed fist, according to the statement of charges.
Gainesville Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said the victim was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment.
“The investigation revealed that the victim was with an acquaintance, Thomas Nicely, … when he became aggressive and confronted her,” Holbrook said in a news release.
