A Pendergrass man is accused of molesting a girl over a period of more than five years.
Eleazar Mata, 41, is being held in the Hall County Jail Friday without bond. He has a committal hearing scheduled for Aug. 21.
Authorities say Mata “engaged in a sexual relationship with a minor female” between January 2012 and April 2017. The victim was 13 when the assaults allegedly began, according to Lt. Scott Ware, spokesman for the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
Mata is charged with child molestation and aggravated child molestation, according to warrants.
Mata was booked into the jail just before 9 p.m. Thursday, according to jail records. Ware said the Sheriff’s Office has had a warrant for Mata’s arrest since May 10. He also has a hold placed on him by Jackson County, Ware said.
This case remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office, according to Ware.
