40 students from Gainesville High School participated in the 42nd annual University of North Georgia World Language Day on April 12 in Dahlonega. The group presented several exhibits and performances for competition, winning 14 awards overall.
Participants were judged in the areas of creative writing, art, skits and performing arts presented in the foreign languages that they currently study.
Madison Keel received first place overall blue ribbon grand prize in exhibits (French) and placed first in models (French). Kathy Quach placed second in models (Chinese) and placed second in handicrafts (Chinese). Taylor Sturdivant placed third in models (Chinese). Rocio Sanchez and Julia Mendez placed first in creative writing (Chinese). Elisabel Vanegas placed first in graphics (Chinese). Hien Phan placed second in graphics (French). Samuel Sandoval placed third in graphics (Chinese). Bryan Molina, Kathy Quach, Vanessa Rivera, Vanessa Cortes and Elisabel Vanegas placed third in class exhibit (Chinese). Rocio Sanchez, Marisa Woo, Julia Mendez, Stephen Le, Ivana Sanchez and Kimberly Turcios placed second in skit (Chinese). Ramiro Salinas and Abigail Maubray placed second in performing arts (Chinese). Dante Wilson received honorable mention in performing arts (French). Emmeline Dye, Ally Cook, Trever Calvert, Michael Nguyen, Page Thompson, Quyen Ong, Esther Ramirez and Simone Stuart received honorable mention in skit (Latin).
