A statewide alert about a radiological emergency on Thursday morning was just a test, according to the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency.
The state agency does regular testing of its emergency alert systems. A cancellation of the alert was also sent out Thursday to assure people that they did not need to be alarmed.
“Although the message stated that it was a test, we are aware that there was confusion on the part of some,” the agency said in a statement. “We have since issued a cancellation message to ensure that the public is clear that this was a test message only.”
Hall County Emergency Management said on social media Thursday that the alert did not originate in Hall.
