A Gainesville man was shot Wednesday night in a parking lot located in the 1800 block of Tulip Drive, officials said.

Hall County sheriff’s deputies responded to an emergency call about 7:18 p.m. and arrived on site to find 20-year-old Jermond Dryan Butler on the ground in front of his parked vehicle, Hall County sheriff’s Maj. Jeff Strickland said.

Butler apparently had been shot in the right leg and was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he remained hospitalized late Wednesday.

Within a few minutes of broadcasting a description of the suspects and their vehicle, a deputy on patrol observed a vehicle matching the description on East Ridge Road, Strickland said.

The deputy pursued the vehicle to Ridgecrest Apartments at 1640 Roper Hill Road, where one man was apprehended and another fled on foot, Strickland said.

Even with the assistance of K-9 units, deputies couldn’t find the second suspect, Strickland said.

Strickland said the victim and others at the scene made conflicting statements, so officials have not determined the causes of the shooting.

The incident remains under investigation.
