Officials ID man in fatal MyCelx explosion

Gainesville officials have released the name of a man killed in a fatal accident at a Gainesville business last week.

Tesfamariam Mehreteab of Lilburn was killed Dec. 20 following a small explosion at MyCelx Technologies near downtown Gainesville.

City fire officials said last week the explosion occurred when a piece of equipment used to clean filters malfunctioned.

The company produces clean water technology solutions for commercial industrial markets worldwide, according to its website.

Mehreteab was 56 and a native of Eritrea, a small country in the horn of the African continent.
