The Georgia Department of Transportation awarded the city of Oakwood $100,000 for phase two of its downtown sidewalk improvement program.
DOT board member Mike Evans recommended the amount based on Oakwood’s application and progress from the initial grant last year.
"We are working to improve healthy lifestyles and public safety with our downtown sidewalks’ program," said Oakwood Mayor Lamar Scroggs. "We appreciate Mike Evans of the DOT board understanding the merit of our application and the long-term benefits that safe sidewalks will have for our citizens, young and old. As we move forward, enhancing our city’s center as a place to recreate, congregate and fellowship, we adopted the sidewalks’ program in our long-term plan of action. We are thankful for the DOT support."
Funds from the Georgia DOT are awarded as transportation enhancement grants at the recommendation of each DOT board member.
