Oakwood RaceTrac getting face-lift
Store plans for renovations to be completed by September
The RaceTrac convenience store at the corner of Mundy Mill and Old Oakwood Roads will be closed until September as crews remodel the store. The contractor for the Oakwood store is RCD General Contractors of Stone Mountain.

Drivers will be able to fill up their tanks and grab a bite to eat at a remodeled RaceTrac on the corner of Old Oakwood Road and Mundy Mill Road in September, if things go according to plan.

For now, the gas station is closed for construction, surrounded by fencing.

Construction should continue through the summer in order to open on schedule, said Ashleigh Womack, RaceTrac communications manager.

Paperwork shows the remodel will add 620 square feet to the 2,989 square feet the store currently occupies, according to Tangee Puckett, Oakwood city clerk.

“Land size is less of a factor for the remodeled store as we are updating that location’s layout and offerings, but may not require much additional land to make those changes,” Womack said.

The remodel will still offer many of the same benefits as the prototype stores, such as a frozen yogurt bar, “Swirl World,” that will offer 10 flavors and more than 40 toppings. The location will also have stone exterior accents and an expanded coffee bar like the prototype stores.

Womack said RaceTrac is remodeling “in an effort to deliver a more consistent brand experience to our guests.”

The contractor for the Oakwood store is RCD General Contractors of Stone Mountain.

Meanwhile, Braselton will have a new store, with construction slated to begin this month and finish sometime this year on Ga. Highway 53. It will be a prototype store.
