Blue Sky Concert Series

Oct. 24 and 31: to be determined
A concert on the square in downtown Gainesville certainly lived up to its name Wednesday afternoon.
The October Blue Sky Concert series kicked off this week with a performance by The Steve Bryson Band.
The concerts will start at noon every Wednesday in October. Listeners can enjoy a picnic on the historic square.
Brown bag lunches are sold for under $6 and there are a number of nearby restaurants.
Suzie Hawkins of Gainesville said she noticed the concert signs around the square and decided to stop and have a picnic with her two small children.
“We came a few times last year and it was just a fun thing to do,” Hawkins said.
Her 2-year-old son Benny said he wanted to hear a song about a green tractor, while her 1-year-old daughter Jane happily munched on pieces of hot dog.
Sarah Oakley and four generations of her family make it a habit to enjoy the concert series together both in the spring and the fall.
Oakley said her family likes to picnic at the concerts because of all the food options along the square. She said her children enjoy being able to play under the trees at the park.
“We come every season. It’s always so nice. The weather is always perfect,” Oakley said.
Eddie and Sonja Bagwell of Gainesville said they, too, never miss a concert in spring or fall— as long as the sky is actually blue. The couple reclined in foldup chairs and tapped their feet along with the music.
“It’s just a great way to kick off the fall season,” Sonja Bagwell said.
