A fire alarm Tuesday night at a nursing home turned out to be just an electrical problem that caused some smoke, according to a fire official.

A commercial fire alarm for Lanier Village Estates, located at 3700 Thompson Bridge Road, was received at 7:45 p.m., according to Hall County Fire Chief David Kimbrell.

He said firefighters saw a light haze of smoke when they arrived, but in about 15 minutes were able to determine the smoke was coming from an electric room at the nursing home part of the complex. Firefighters checked the entirety of the complex to make sure there was no other source of smoke, he said.

A few people were moved into another part of the complex as a precaution, but everyone was safe and sound, Kimbrell said.

He said Lanier Village Estates officials will be calling an electrician for service to determine the cause of the electrical problem.
