A White County home was destroyed by fire early today but its residents were able to escape to safety and there were no injuries.
Volunteers from two White County Fire Department stations responded to the blaze at Larla Davis Road at Asbury Mill Road just after midnight. They were joined by units from Lumpkin County and the Lee Arrendale DOC Station 1.
The home was three-quarters involved in flames when the first units arrived, but the occupants had been alerted by smoke alarms and got out safely. The structure collapsed at 6:38 a.m., officials said, and is a total loss.
Firefighters remained on the scene this morning extinguishing hot spots. The source of the fire is under investigation but has already been declared as not suspicious by White County Fire Investigator Robert Wilkins.
