Newsmaker in business: Medical Center earns top accreditation for cancer services

Northeast Georgia Medical Center’s Cancer Services has earned Three-Year Accreditation with Gold-Level Commendation, the highest level, from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.

“We’re extremely proud of this elite recognition,” said Dr. Charles Nash III, medical director of NGMC’s Cancer Services and medical oncologist with Longstreet Clinic. “Receiving this level of accreditation truly illustrates our organization’s commitment to our community and patients — and proves that patients don’t have to travel outside of Northeast Georgia for top-quality cancer care.”

The Commission awards accreditation with commendation to cancer programs that comply with all standards at the time of the survey, which is performed every three years. The gold level is awarded to programs that earn commendation for all seven standards.

The Medical Center’s physicians and staff care for more than 2,000 new cancer patients each year in Gainesville, Braselton, Gainesville, Toccoa and Winder. For more, visit
