The young business major was stumped when his counselor at Mississippi College suggested hospital administration. “I didn’t even know that was a career,” Louis G. Smith Jr. said. But Smith more than does now, and he took the next big step in his long career of running or helping to run hospitals by joining Gainesville’s Northeast Georgia Medical Center as its new president.
