A power outage knocked out several traffic signals Thursday in Gainesville along both E.E. Butler and Jesse Jewell parkways and affected other downtown sites. All intersections were restored by 5 p.m., except the Jesse Jewell Parkway and Barn Street intersection.
David Dockery, Gainesville director of public works, said several intersections along Jesse Jewell Parkway were out for about an hour.
“We had the intersection of Jesse Jewell and Barn Street, Jesse Jewell and Community Way, EE Butler and Washington Street and EE Butler at Spring Street down as a result,” he said.
Dockery said a power transmission line that belonged to Georgia Power broke and came down on on a “mast arm,” causing the outage spread.
Melissa Tymchuk, director of public relations for Northeast Georgia Medical Center, said a few locations on the hospital campus were affected by the outage.
Spokeswoman Beth Downs said it did not affect the hospital's main operation, but did affect multiple buildings on the property.
“We have had a report from Georgia Power that all outages have been restored,” she said.
Frances Meadows Aquatic Center was also closed due to the outage.
