A murder suspect from Mississippi was arrested Monday morning in Hall County after he was apprehended at the Kangaroo gas station on Sardis Road in northwest Hall.

John David Smith Jr. of Columbia, Miss., is being held on a murder warrant from Marion County, Miss., said Gainesville police Lt. Nina Harkins.

A Gainesville police officer spotted a red Dodge Ram pickup truck traveling west at 12:10 a.m. on Dawsonville Highway that matched the description of a lookout given earlier, Harkins said.

The driver of the truck pulled into the Kangaroo and stopped.

The officer was able to confirm it was the lookout vehicle. With the help of the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect was taken into custody without incident, Harkins said.
