A German manufacturing company in Oakwood plans to break ground on an 95,000-square-foot expansion this month.

With facilities all over the world, Bitzer is among the leading manufacturing companies that produce compressors for refrigeration units and air conditioners.

The company intends to begin building the new expansion on 31 acres in Oakwood adjacent to the current facility on Chamblis Road.

The new building will be in the Tanner Creek Industrial Complex.

Shelley Davis, vice president of existing industry with the Greater Hall County Chamber of Commerce, said the expansion is a $10 million investment.

"We're trying to consolidate under one roof and have the ability to continue progressive growth," Bitzer operations manager Mike Duffy said.

Since the facility opened in 2004, it has maintained 80 employees.

The expansion is expected to bring an additional 50 jobs.

Duffy said the new jobs will likely split down the middle between manufacturing office and administrative work.

He said the hiring won't be done all at once because the expansion is all additional growth.

"I'll be an ongoing process starting at the beginning of next year when the facility opens," Duffy said.

The groundbreaking will take place on March 30.

"We're just excited about our new home and our future growth," Duffy said.
