Habersham County Sheriff’s officials have not yet identified a man who was struck and killed by a train late Monday.

Capt. Rick Salemi said a white male was struck by a Norfolk Southern train on tracks near Garland White Road in Alto about 10 p.m. Monday. The train stopped after hitting the man.

Officials are unsure if the death was accidental, a suicide or whether foul play was involved. The man’s body was taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab in Decatur for an autopsy.

The circumstances of the death and the man’s identity remain under investigation.
