Days into a murder trial, a Gainesville man decided to make a guilty plea for a fatal January 2016 stabbing.
Eric Aurelio Reyes pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter Wednesday afternoon following the prosecution’s presentation of evidence in his trial.
Reyes was charged with murder in alleged connection to the death of Evan Isaac Rosas, 22. Rosas was found Jan. 17, 2016, with multiple stab wounds at The Preserve at Tumbling Creek Apartments.
Reyes’ attorney Brett Willis did not respond to an email or multiple calls for comment Wednesday.
Jury selection started Monday for Reyes’ trial, with opening statements and testimony being heard Tuesday.
Chief Assistant District Attorney Wanda Vance told the jury about a text message Reyes sent to Rosas’ friend. According to testimony, the text said Reyes would “shank him dead ass” if Rosas entered the apartment.
Sentencing has been set for a later date.
