A Lula man died in a two-vehicle wreck Thursday afternoon that left one lane of Ga. 365 closed for several hours.
Nicholas Casey Turpin, 23, of Lula apparently died on impact when he turned his 1994 Mazda B200 pickup into the path of another truck going southbound, Gainesville police Lt. Gary Entrekin said.
Around 5:48 p.m., Danny Oliver, 45, of Lula was driving a 1999 Ford F250 pickup southbound on Ga. 365, approaching Howard Road, when Turpin turned left in front of him, Entrekin said.
The wreck happened near the Georgia Mountains YMCA, which is located at 2455 Howard Road.
Both trucks left the roadway and Oliver’s overturned, Entrekin said. Both men appeared to have been wearing seat belts, and there were no passengers in either truck, he said.
Oliver was taken to the Lanier Park campus of Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening, Entrekin said. He did not know if Oliver had been released from the hospital Thursday night.
The Gainesville Police Department still was investigating the wreck Thursday night, though no charges had been filed.
