A car struck and killed a pedestrian Sunday, April 22, on Atlanta Highway and drove away toward downtown Gainesville, police said.
Gainesville Police have not yet released the identity of the man killed. Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said officers were dispatched around 11:45 p.m. Sunday to 1750 Atlanta Highway.
“A passerby observed the victim on (the) side of the roadway and called police,” Holbrook said.
Police believe the car involved was a full-size Chevrolet pickup or SUV made between 1999 and 2005, and the suspect drove toward the city near the Beaulieu of America plant.
“The vehicle should have front end damage, specifically to the passenger side area,” Holbrook said.
Investigators ask anyone with information to call 911 or 770-535-5163, particularly those who may have witnessed the crash or saw the vehicle between 10 p.m. and midnight near Atlanta Highway and Memorial Park Drive.
