A Gainesville man has been charged in connection with Thursday’s wreck involving a state trooper, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

William Matthew Hulsey, 18, was charged with DUI, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, reckless driving, obstructing/hindering law enforcement officers, leaving the scene of an accident, and numerous traffic violations, the patrol said.

He was driving a red Chevrolet S-10 pickup Thursday on Highland Road in North Hall County when a GSP officer tried to execute a traffic stop, according to Deputy Chad Mann, spokesman for the Hall County Sheriff’s Office. Both the pickup and the officer’s car overturned at Hubert Stephens Road.

Hulsey ran off after the crash and was apprehended later. He was treated at Northeast Georgia Medical Center for injuries sustained from the crash and later released to Hall County Jail, the patrol said.

The trooper suffered minor injuries and was also treated at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Mann said.
