BRASELTON — A 19-year-old man fell off a roof at a construction site in Braselton and died Thursday afternoon.
Alredo Gutierrez-de la Fuente of Austell fell 40 feet and died of blunt trauma to the head. The accident happened around 2 p.m. at a building under construction at Duke at Park 85 off of Jesse Cronic Road, Braselton Assistant Police Chief Lou Solis said.
"He was working on the roof putting decking on and he fell off and hit his head," Solis said.
Gutierrez-de la Fuente, who was employed by contractor JB Steel Directors, died at the construction site.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration closed the work site Thursday and Friday, and will interview witnesses on Tuesday, Solis said.
Gutierrez-de la Fuente is originally from San Luis, Mexico, and he had no family in the area except for an uncle who worked in the construction business with him, Solis said.
This is the second construction-related death in a year in Braselton. In March 2007, a construction worker on Shumard Oak Drive in Chateau Elan died when a home collapsed following a strong gust of wind.
Enrique Chimal, 43, of Marietta was working inside the home and was crushed. He died of his injuries at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
Two other men who were on the roof also were seriously injured.
