A Gainesville man was jailed Thursday on suspicion that he stole items from as many as 30 cars in recent months.

Brent Allen Boles, 20, was charged with 36 counts of theft by receiving, six counts of financial transaction card theft and one count of theft by deception, Hall County Sheriff’s Lt. Scott Ware said.

Ware said Boles became a suspect in a number of entering auto cases on March 27, when he was arrested in Banks County.

The Gainesville-Hall County Gang Task Force, which investigates all entering auto cases in Hall County, searched two homes in the New Holland area where Boles was known to stay. Searches of the homes on Quarry Street and Branch Street turned up numerous wallets, ID cards, credit cards, sunglasses, a laptop computer, clothes and compact discs.

Authorities were able to locate victims from Hall, Banks, White and Habersham counties who reclaimed their stolen belongings, Ware said.

Most of the cars that were entered were unlocked, Ware said.

Boles is suspected of committing the thefts throughout Hall County "for several months," Ware said.

Authorities have taken out arrest warrants on a second theft suspect believed to be involved with Boles, Ware said. That suspect has not yet been arrested.
